Creators of Karbi film ''Mirbeen' share film insights at 54th IFFI.

Representing the rich tapestry of Assamese cinema, 'Mirbeen' stands out among the 15 exceptional films vying for the esteemed Golden Peacock at IFFI 54. This cinematic gem had its moment under the spotlight in the Indian Panorama section of the festival. At the 54th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in the picturesque setting of Goa, the creative minds steering the Karbi feature film 'Mirbeen'—Director Mridul Gupta, writer Manimala Das, and producer Dhaniram Tisso—engaged in a thoughtful dialogue, unraveling the intricate layers of their impactful cinematic venture.

'

Mirbeen' meticulously unfurls an authentic portrayal of the harrowing extremist strife that enveloped Karbi Anglong in 2005. Director Mridul Gupta, in his passionate discourse, underscored the film's commitment to truth and facts, delving into the turbulent events that marked that challenging period in history. Writer Manimala Das, providing insights into the film's thematic exploration, unveiled the metaphorical depiction of roots throughout the narrative. These roots, manifested in various shots, serve as a symbolic arch, portraying individuals enduring attacks on their very foundations yet emerging with a resilient spirit.

Manimala Das further illuminated the film's musical landscape, describing it as truly organic, woven seamlessly with traditional Karbi tunes. Expressing a collective hope, she shared, "We aspire for audiences to empathize with the Karbi through our film and profoundly feel the struggles embedded within their story."

The cinematic canvas of 'Mirbeen' extends to the realm of textiles, with Manimala Das delving into the role of handloom as a path to recovery and redemption for those entangled in conflict in Assam. The film draws inspiration from childhood tales of Serdihun, the elusive Goddess of textiles in Karbi tribal beliefs, infusing the central character with a beacon of hope and a sense of purpose.

In essence, 'Mirbeen' transcends the boundaries of a mere cinematic creation; it becomes a poignant narrative that intricately weaves together history, culture, and resilience, inviting audiences to immerse themselves in the profound tapestry of the Karbi experience.
